Krav Maga Yashir
Authentic Israeli Krav Maga
Welcome To Krav Maga Yashir
Welcome to Krav Maga Yashir! Our training center is located less than four miles from the center of Stoneham, Massachusetts. We teach authentic Israeli Krav Maga direct from the source. Krav Maga meaning “contact combat” in Hebrew is the official system of hand-to-hand fighting that is used by the IDF (Israeli Defense Force). Its goal is to get an untrained, inexperienced, new recruit proficient in unarmed combat in the shortest possible time. To do this the system relies on and utilizes the body’s natural reflexes and reactions when attacked. Rather than trying to force a person to respond to an attack with a technique and movement that they had to learn, Krav Maga uses the body’s natural responses. This substantially increases the likelihood of performing effectively in real-life situations, especially when surprised or unprepared. Krav Maga is recognized by militaries and law-enforcement agencies worldwide as one of the most effective systems of self-defense in existence.
Our Head Instructor, Gershon Ben Keren, is a 5th Degree Black Belt, who has trained and taught in Israel (he has been training in Krav Maga since 1993. This is also where he received his teaching certificates and belts. He regularly returns to Israel and brings instructors over from Israel to teach at his school in Massachusetts (a 10-minute drive from the center of Stoneham). This is important because Krav Maga is continually evolving in order to deal with new threats and attacks and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of existing techniques. If you are interested in experiencing Krav Maga, that comes direct from the source, you can attend one of our 60-minute beginner Krav Maga classes, using the button below.

Krav Maga Books By Gershon Ben Keren
Krav Maga - Real World Solutions
Whilst being a book that teaches Krav Maga techniques and solutions, it also puts violence into context, explaining how violence is experienced by those targeted, and by those who perpetrate it. This enables the reader to both make sense of the attacks illustrated, and why the techniques used to respond to them work the way that they do and why they are effective. The photographs in the book were shot in full color and in the locations where violence is experienced e.g., pubs and bars, on the street, outside ATMs etc. All of the techniques shown/demonstrated were performed at full speed against attacks carried out at full speed i.e., there are no static, staged photos. The book looks primarily at premeditated attacks i.e., those where a violent offender has decided to engage in violence before they have targeted somebody.

The book, “Krav Maga – Tactical Survival”, looks primarily at social violence. This is the type of spontaneous violence that occurs as the result of a negative social interaction e.g., somebody who is frustrated by waiting in a queue becomes angry when they believe you have cut in front of them and/or others. The individual, whilst possibly predisposed to having aggressive/violent outbursts hadn’t planned to become violent, but an action, behavior or event has triggered them into becoming highly emotional and targets you as the cause etc. Fortunately, such situations can often be dealt with using de-escalation techniques and conflict resolution tactics. As well as showing physical solutions to the types of attacks that are common in these situations, such as lapel grabs, the book also details an effective de-escalation approach/method.

Although active shooter incidents, car-jackings and home invasions are not as common as incidents of social violence or street robberies they are potentially high-consequence events. Knowing what to do, when to act, and how to act, significantly increases your survival chances. Although it may seem daunting to think about being in an active shooter incident there are many survival strategies that have been proven to work, which aren’t reliant on complex techniques, and/or extreme physical skills. The key to surviving such situations is being decisive in the moment and if you are equipped with the tools, tactics, and knowledge on how to act then your ability to make quick decisions in the moment will be increased dramatically. The same is true of carjackings and home invasions. Having foreknowledge of hos these events occur and what to do increases decisiveness.

Whilst a blog primarily about Krav Maga part of the blog’s goal is to explain the various processes that lead to violence, the decision-making processes that various violent offenders use, along with the psychology of violence. Rather than simply write a blog about Krav Maga techniques and solutions etc., the blog attempts to give the reader an appreciation for why and how violence occurs, along with approaches for predicting, preventing, and avoiding it in the first place (which should be everybody’s goal). Started in 2012, it has been updated weekly and covers a variety of topics and subjects both about Krav Maga, and about violent offending in general. You can search it using the search box below, or you can click here to be taken to a hierarchical, structured version organized by subject matter.
